Abstract

The decarbonisation of industry raises many questions: with regard to the dynamics of international competition, North-South relations, industrial policy, fossil inertia, trade union strategies and, last but not least, the possibility of a much more far-reaching, post-capitalist rather than just post-fossil transformation. It remains to be seen whether and to what extent decarbonisation strategies will prevail; in other words, to what extent we are actually on the path to a ‘post-fossil capitalism’, how this will take shape, how the interests of ‘green’ and fossil capital fractions will combine and to what extent the contradictions of a post-fossil capitalism will ignite conflicts in which further-reaching transformative potentials become visible.
