The influence of multinational seed companies threatens traditional agroecology and may support genetic erosion. The paper asks how biological diversity could be defended: By ecologically extended markets, in which new property rights to genetic resources are sold, or by ecological movements that seek to impose the maintenance of biological diversity a priori and only then calculate economic costs?
