We always look forward to proposals for articles and explicitly welcome the submission of manuscripts. Please note, however, that we do not publish reprints, i.e. manuscripts which have already been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. Before publication, all contributions are evaluated in a peer review process.
Manuscript Submission
Contributions should not exceed a maximum number of 15 to 20 pages (approx. 40,000 to 45,000 characters). Please submit manuscripts as attachments sent by email, formatted in Word (doc or docx) or Rich Text Format (rtf) without any special formatting features such as header lines, indent or paragraph format. Please also observe our guidelines regarding citation style and formal design (see below). Contributions to our journal cannot be remunerated.
Guidelines regarding formats and citation style
All contributions are subject to an intensive review process, which generally leads to comprehensive comments and suggestions to revise and/or shorten the manuscript. Due to the cancellation of other articles, layout requirements, or to current events, it is always possible that we have to change the original concept for a journal issue. In these cases, we may postpone the publication of articles or request to shorten a manuscript. We seek to communicate such changes to the authors as quickly and transparently as possible.
Articles should be clearly structured and indicate the theoretical and empirical basis of the argument, the core thesis and how it is justified against potential objectives, as well as the political relevance of the argument. Articles should be written in a clear and intelligible language, which is also accessible for readers outside a narrow academic specialist audience. Please refrain from academic jargon and long and complicated sentences with parenthesis. Citations in a foreign language need to be translated.
Articles should reference all relevant sources and contributions to the argument. However, it is not necessary to provide a comprehensive overview over the entire state-of-the-art in a given subject.
Length of Manuscripts
Articles: 40,000 to maximum 45,000 characters; texts in the category Einsprüche(interventions): approx. 15,000 to 25,000 characters (please consult the editorial board) – including space characters, references and footnotes.
Abstracts and author information
Please provide a short abstract (3 to 4 sentences) and a title in English as well as a short note regarding your institutional affiliation, including your email address and, if possible, your ORCID (this will be published with the article). Please also send us your postal address so that we can send you a printed copy of the issue (this address will not be published).
Gender sensitive language
All contribution should be written in gender sensitive language. How this is done is left to the authors. The editorial board will check, however, if this has been adequately taken into consideration and request revisions if necessary. Please note that the main criterion is to illuminate the specific gender composition of social groups. Gender sensitive language therefore does not mean to suggest a gender balance in a pre-dominantly male area.
References
Please insert references in the text in brackets: Author, Year (colon) and page number. For instance: (Müller 1968: 212). Please do not use footnotes to refer to an author or title.
References to established databases do not require the extensive URL. For example: http://www.imf.org
Internet source with an author and a title should be included in the bibliography, including the URL and the date accessed.
For references to newspaper articles which document statements or events, please provide the domain and headline as well as the date of publication, but not the entire URL, for instance: „Die schwarze Null muss stehen“, http://www.sueddeutsche.de (14.7.2016).
