Abstract

Molecular genetics, which used to study individual genes and today examines whole genomes, is connected to mechanical and information-theoretical images. According to the author' s thesis, these metaphors have a large influence on the context of discovery, argumentation and application in Biology and Medicine. They form the ground on which a common world-view of science and society is established, however, they lead to socially and ecologically dangerous errors of judgement.
