The German debate about university education, opposing an orientation on pure knowledge and an adaptation to economic requirements, is criticized. A new concept of university education is presented, centered around producing the ability to come to decisions regarding as well incomplete information as the social effects of decisions. Finally the german "educational pessimis", the belief that there are less talented pupils, is discussed.
