The article pays tribute to Alex Demirovic's commitment to critical theory, materialist state theory and socialist utopia. Alex Demirovic has contributed significantly to the reconstruction of a materialist theory of the state through his reception of Poulantzas. In addition to theoretical orientation, he has advocated a left socialist party policy. In doing so, he adheres to the socialist vision of a free and humane society beyond capitalism.
