Abstract

The European Union is in a crisis. First, the process of European integration itself is in a deep crisis (keyword: Brexit). Secondly, there are considerable inequalities within the EU. Thirdly, ecological problems such as climate change are coming to a head and are increasingly politicized. The European Green Deal (EGD) is the EU's answer to these crises. However, it is merely an attempt to push ahead with ecological modernization. However, even in the corona pandemic this will succeed at best only selectively. To overcome the crises, the EGD approaches fall far short.
