Abstract

In den letzten Jahrzehnten wurden viele Schutzgebiete zu bewaffneten Festungen umgebaut. Dies ist neueren Entwicklungen geschuldet, wie der Professionalisierung der Wilderei oder der Privatisierung von Nationalparks, weist aber auch wichtige Kontinuitäten zur Kolonialzeit auf, in die die Gründung vieler dieser Parks zurückreicht. Am Beispiel des Kongobeckens zeigt der Artikel, wie weit die Bundesregierung in die Militarisierung des Naturschutzes verstrickt ist, und welch dramatische Folgen sie für die lokale Bevölkerung hat.
